How to Join

ONLINE APPLICATION

  • Select Members Area from the menu on the left hand side of this web page.
  • At the Member Login page, under Online Membership Application select the Apply Here option and complete the registration process.
  • Sign an Acknowledgement of Risk Waiver form.
  • Scan and email the signed risk waiver form to newmembers@hobartwalkingclub.org.au or print it and post to -
    New Members Officer, Hobart Walking Club Inc., GPO Box 753, Hobart, TAS, 7001.
  • Pay the membership fee.
  • Email both newmembers@hobartwalkingclub.org.au and treasurer@hobartwalkingclub.org.au to advise of your application and payment.

Print the Application for Membership Form, or request a form from the New Members Officer and follow the instructions.

Membership is due for renewal on 1 July each year.
Full details of Club trips are provided on the Club website and in the Club Circular. You will be sent an email Circular each month free of charge. A hard copy Circular will also be posted to you each month if you add the Optional Extra amount to your membership fee.

What happens next?

Prospective Membership
When your application is processed, details of your Prospective Membership will be advised by email and a Welcome Pack will be posted to you. You will immediately be able to join in our Club activities. As a Prospective Member you must book in for each trip by phoning the trip coordinator before attending.

Gaining Full Membership
To gain full membership of the Club, you must complete three qualifying trips and a Club Essential Skills Day within 12 months of becoming a Prospective Member.

  • Two of the qualifying trips must be qualifying Club walks.
  • The third could be a hut working bee, a Club organised track clearing day, a training weekend, a cycling trip of at least 35 kms, a kayak trip of a least 14 nautical miles or another qualifying Club walk.
  • The Essential Skills Day is an opportunity to learn about the Club. It includes some basic instruction in bushcraft, what to put in your pack, map reading and use of a compass, survival and care of the bush environment along with information on navigating the Club website.

A Full Member of at least 12 months standing (usually the New Members Officer) will then nominate you for Full Membership.

If you are currently a member of another Australian bushwalking club, you may apply for exemption from the prospective stage of membership. If you wish to discuss this, please contact the New Members Officer.
