Centenary Events

Hobart Walking Club Centenary Celebrations

The HWC will turn 100 years in November 2029!

To celebrate this milestone the Club is planning to hold special events in the lead up to the Centenary month.

The Club’s role in bushwalking, protecting nature and serving the community will be highlighted with a range of fun activities:

  • Programs of special walks, cycle trips and kayaking trips covering all grades of experience
  • Recreate some ‘Classic Walks’ based on routes used in 1930’s - 1950’s
  • Walks on significant tracks – e.g. the 17 km Tasman Coastal Trail, built by Club volunteers in 1972-80
  • Exhibition of historical photos, maps, outdoor gear and equipment
  • An Open Day at the Club’s Lake Dobson Memorial Hut (itself 80 years old) with displays
  • Social events, including a reception at Government House and a Members’ luncheon

Want to be involved in centenary celebrations?

Do you have some skills in:

  • Interviewing members
  • Research and writing
  • Graphic design
  • Media relations
  • Ordering and marketing merchandise
  • Organising social events

Expressions of Interest are invited from Club members, past members or other interested persons who may wish to:

  • contribute their skills and ideas
  • volunteer for events
  • provide photos or
  • serve on the Centenary Subcommittee

The Club Executive has created a Centenary Subcommittee

for planning and organising celebratory events, including trips, social activities, publications, publicity, media and other activities.
